Case Summary
Federal High Court, Abuja, presided over by Justice Okon Abang today, Tuesday, February 25, 2020 gave a seven year jail term sentence to Chief Olisa Metuh, having found him guilty of all the seven-count charges, preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Full story
In the judgement, which lasted over five hours, Justice Okon Abang convicted Metuh on all the seven counts, including the fraudulent receipt of N400m from the Office of the National Security Adviser in November 2014 and use of the money for his personal purposes and for transacting with a cash sum of $2m without going through a financial institution.
Metuh was sentenced to seven years on counts one, two, four, and seven, and five years on counts three, five, and six, for a total of 43 years. Because the sentences are concurrent, Metu will serve only seven years, beginning on the day of his conviction.
On counts five and six, the court fined the second defendant, Metu's Destra Investment Limited, N25 million each. Metu is also required to repay the Federal Government of Nigeria N375 million. The money in the second defendant's Diamond Bank account was forfeited to the federal government, and the company is to be closed down.
